Quick start
- Open the app and pick how you like your egg: soft, medium, hard or extra hard.
- Choose what you're cooking with — stove, induction or egg cooker. The right time loads automatically.
- Stove and induction: bring the water to a rolling boil first, lower the egg in, then tap Start. Egg cooker: fill it, switch it on and start the timer at the same time.
- When your egg is ready, the app rings like an alarm clock. One tap stops it.
Which devices does it run on?
Egg Timer runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch and needs iOS 26 or later. It is a single purchase: download it once and it is available on every device signed in to your Apple Account, including the Pro upgrade if you bought it.
- iPhone: the full app, including the Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
- iPad: the same app, useful when the tablet is already propped up on the kitchen counter.
- Apple Watch: a standalone app — pick doneness and appliance, start the timer and watch the progress ring on your wrist.
The Watch app keeps its own doneness and appliance selection, so setting it there does not change what your iPhone shows.
The alarm
- The alarm rings even on silent. Egg Timer uses the same iOS mechanism as the system timer, so the alarm sounds on the Lock Screen and in silent mode. iOS asks for alarm permission once — usually during onboarding.
- If you declined that permission, the app falls back to a normal notification. To get the full alarm, allow it in the iOS Settings for Egg Timer.
- Prefer a quieter life? Switch the alarm toggle off in the app settings and you'll get a standard notification with the default sound instead.
- While the egg cooks, the countdown appears as a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island — you can pause and resume right from there.
Cook times
The twelve built-in times assume a medium (size M) egg straight from the fridge. On the stove and on induction, start the timer when the egg goes into water at a rolling boil; for the egg cooker the time runs from switch-on and includes heat-up.
Bigger eggs, room-temperature eggs or personal taste? Adjust the time before starting — or unlock Pro (a one-time purchase, no subscription) to save your own times permanently: every doneness level and appliance, in 15-second steps, from 2 to 30 minutes. A reset to the defaults is always one tap away.
Pro, purchases and restoring
Pro is a one-time purchase — there is no subscription and nothing renews. It unlocks custom cook times. An optional tip also unlocks Pro.
If you reinstall the app or switch devices, use Restore purchases in the app, signed in with the same Apple Account you used for the purchase. Restoring is free and needs an internet connection.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us — use Report a Problem in your App Store purchase history.
Apple Watch
The Watch app is included and starts the same timer from your wrist: pick doneness and appliance, tap start, and watch the progress ring. It notifies you on the watch when the egg is ready. Settings on the watch are stored on the watch itself.
