Online egg timer

A free egg timer that runs right here in your browser. Pick your doneness — soft (5:00), medium (7:00), hard (10:00) or extra hard (13:00) for a size-M egg from the fridge on the stove — choose your appliance, and press start. When the time is up, the timer chimes.

What are you cooking with?

Keyboard: Space starts or pauses, R resets. Keep this tab open — the alarm sound plays in your browser.

How to use the online egg timer

  1. Bring your water to a rolling boil (stove or induction), or fill your egg cooker and switch it on.
  2. Pick your doneness level — the timer preloads the matching time.
  3. Lower the eggs into the water, press Start, and leave the tab open.
  4. When the chime sounds, take the eggs out and rinse them briefly under cold water.

The preset times assume a medium (size M) egg straight from the fridge. Larger or room-temperature eggs shift the time — the guides on egg sizes and fridge-cold vs. room temperature tell you by how much, and the custom minutes and seconds fields let you set any time you like.

Browser timer vs. the app

This online timer is great at the kitchen counter with your laptop open. It has one honest limitation: a browser tab can only ring while it is open and audible. If the tab is closed, the sound is muted, or your screen locks, the alarm cannot reach you.

The Egg Timer app doesn't have that problem: it schedules a real alarm through iOS itself — the same mechanism as the system timer — so it rings loudly on the Lock Screen even in silent mode, shows the countdown as a Live Activity in the Dynamic Island, and works on your Apple Watch. And it remembers your personal cook times for every doneness level and appliance.

Want an egg timer that rings even when your phone is locked?

Egg Timer for iPhone rings like an alarm clock — on the Lock Screen, in silent mode, and on your Apple Watch.

Frequently asked questions

Does the online egg timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is based on your computer's clock, so it stays accurate in a background tab. Keep the tab open and the volume on, though — the chime can only play inside the browser.

Which time should I pick for my egg?

For a size-M egg from the fridge, lowered into boiling water: 5:00 for soft, 7:00 for medium, 10:00 for hard, 13:00 for extra hard. On induction pick the slightly shorter presets; in an egg cooker the longer ones, since they include heat-up time.

Is the timer really free?

Completely. It runs entirely in your browser, needs no account and no download, sets no cookies and sends nothing to any server.

Can I set my own time?

Yes — use the minutes and seconds fields below the presets. The dial accepts anything up to 60 minutes.
